Vizsla
Overview and History
The actual origins of the Vizsla can change depending on which historian you ask. Apparently some believe it matches etchings from the 10th and 14th century, while others think it’s not that old. Whatever its origin, it’s an intelligent, easily trained, sensitive dog that gets very attached to its owner. Having been bred to do well as hunters, they are good at retrieval as well. They also enjoy and are good at swimming.

Friendliness Towards other Dogs
Friendly – The Vizsla is a friendly dog and if socialized properly should have no problem getting along with other dogs.
Friendliness towards other Pets
Cautious – Although the Vizsla is more friendly than not, it might have a high prey drive and be prone to chasing smaller animals due to its hunting breed history. Regular socialization and monitoring with small animals, especially living in the household, from an early age is important to prevent unwanted behavior.
Friendliness Towards Strangers
Friendly – Despite their tendency to become a bit to protective of family and owners. If trained properly this breed tends to enjoy the presence of, and meeting, strangers.
Energy & Trainability
Energy Level
High Energy/High Exercise Needs – This breed tends to have seemingly never-ending energy and won’t be satisfied with one short walk a day.
A large yard and daily run is a necessity with this breed. Expect to provide regular stimulation to prevent unwanted behaviors.
Training Ability
Easy - This breed tends to learn commands and expectations easily. Recommended for inexperienced owners.

Tips for Raising Your Dog
Vizsla’s are more sensitive than most dogs and cannot handle rough treatment. They are very loyal which makes them easy to train but you shouldn’t use force or aggressive techniques.
As with all dogs, it is important to not over exercise a puppy. They grow quickly and too much pressure on their joints can cause issues later on in life. Wait until your puppy is at least a year old before you take them on any lengthy hikes or runs.
